The climbing club Adrenalin was founded in 1997
when a group of students from the Faculty of Physical
Education in Novi Sad gathered together around the common
interests: love towards nature, healthy life, but most
of all there was love towards this extreme sport.
The club started with its real activities only in 2000, when it presented the artificial rock for
climbing at the Fair of Hunting, Fishing and Tourism in Novi Sad for the first time, and this
attracted great attention of the public, especially the young people. Half a year later, the club
put another artificial rock on the beach "Strand" in Novi Sad, when people showed great interest in
climbing activity and since then a lot of new members have joined the club and gained the knowledge,
skills and physical condition thanks to already skilled members of the club.
In the late autumn of 2001, the club put the first
rock for active members in the gym of the high school
for the economists in Novi Sad. Towards the end of the
season a problem occurred because the number of those
who wanted to practice this sport highly exceeded the
capacity of the artificial rock. Therefore, the rock could
now be available only for those who would take part in
competitions. Those who were here for recreation continued
with theoretical learning and activities in the gym.
In the summer of 2002, the club put one more rock on the beach in Novi Sad, which was assisted
by the Local Secretariat for Sport and Province Secretariat for Sport and Youth. There was a ceremonial
opening with a competition, and the youngest participant was only 5 years old.
November 2002 was marked by the visit of The Climbing Club from Rogaska Slatina, Slovenia. This
visit and co-operation with the climbers from Slovenia contributed a lot to the quality of the club.
2002 was marked by two more events which were very important for the history of the climbing sport in
Novi Sad. The two outstanding members of our club graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education in
2002: Slobodan Mazalica in March 2002, with his thesis on "Technique and specific physical preparations
in sports climbing" and Nenad Matic, Jun 2002, with his thesis on "Free Climbing as a recreational sports
activity".
Since 2002 our club has been a member of the Alpine Sports Climbing Federation of Serbia and
Montenegro, which is the observing member of UIAA.
A mountaineering workshop also started with its work in 2002, and it now has about 40 active members.
It is a member of the Mountaineering Association of Serbia. Its activities are mostly realized on Fruska
Gora, but its members also go to higher mountains throughout Serbia and Montenegro. It is also an active
co-organizer of the marathon on Fruska Gora.
Nowadays there are 10 active participants at the competitions and about 20 members who take this
sport as a recreation. Since the club became a member of ASFSCG, it has taken part in all competitions
if financial situation allowed it. So far the club won the third place at the National Cup in Belgrade in
April 2002 at the junior level, and fifth place was shared by two participants at the same competition and
at the senior level. Since 2002 the Climbing Club is categorized by the Local Secretariat for sport in
Novi Sad and is financed by local government of Novi Sad.
All this time, the club has been traveling all
over Yugoslavia and even across its borders, and by climbing
various natural and artificial rocks, they have been able
to make new friendships and gain the skill in this sport
whose popularity is on the increase. The mostly visited
locations are Jelasniska crag near Nis and mountain Stol
near Bor, and some climbing areas around Belgrade
The mission and objective of our club is to attract as many people as possible, especially young
people who can take up this sport. The same attention is given to active members who take part in
competitions and to those for who this is just a recreation. Therefore, we put the artificial rock on the
beach "Strand" in Novi Sad, and this year we plan to add another 15m long rock with a less steep slope
that would be for beginners and those who take up this sport as a recreation, while the existing rock that
is 11 m long and with a steeper slope would be used to prepare members who would take part in competitions.
The club also plans to put a boulder for its members. One of activities of club is constant participation in
anti-drug and anti-alcohol activities, organized by various institutions. We use this attractive sport as
a methodology in fighting with this growing problem among youth.
Financial plan for 2003
The costs of competitions will be covered by the
club and participants contributions. The club gets constant
donations from the Local Secretariat for Sport and Province
Secretariat fro Sport and Youth, and another source of
the income of the club is a membership fee. The building
of a rock will be covered by economic sponsors, while
competitions will be organized in co-operation with The
Provincial Secretariat for Sport and Youth, and a few
economic sponsors. This way of financing will be continued
in the following year as well.
